The branches I’m chasing mainly come from Stewart and Terrell Counties, Georgia, and Williamsburg County, South Carolina as far as recorded information goes.
I used to think that my family originated from Stewart County, Georgia and Stewart County, Georgia only because growing up it seemed everyone I knew I was related to were from there. As I grew in my genealogical research and my understanding of history, I realized of course, that was not the case.
This branch from Stewart County was from my maternal side. My paternal side are from Terrell County, Georgia and Williamsburg County, SC. I did not know anyone from my paternal side of my family. I only met my South Carolina family in the last decade or so.
Also, digging through records over the years, I have found that I have roots in Virginia and Mississippi that I have yet to explore.
It goes without saying that, as an African American, my roots are from the continent of Africa, mainly West Africa.
I don’t doubt my ancestors made their way from the Continent to the Carribean to America. More commonly referred to as the Triangle Slave Trade.
I may never know where my family originated from. Some branches may be closer to Africa than others. I may never find out which one of my many African ancestors made it through the trauma of being stolen and sold from their homeland.
I won’t stop searching.
